Modern societies have faced major changes regarding diets in recent decades, related to the consumption of meat and other products of animal origin. In Brazil, dietary changes in urban and rural areas can be observed based on research by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. This article aims to discuss data from the last Family Budget Survey carried out in the 2017-2018 biennium, analyzing possible changes in the diet from the perspective of the consumption of meat and animal derivatives since 2008. The methodology of this work was based on secondary data from the Family Budget Survey (POF) 2017-2018 and 2007-2008. The consumption of beef has been replaced by other types of meat, such as pork and poultry, possibly because they are cheaper and due to changes in the population's mentality, which still impacts the health of people and the environment. Therefore, changes in food consumption must prioritize the health of human beings and the planet and not just for purely economic factors. The State can be an important ally in implementing such actions through public purchasing programs, for example.
